December Playdate

Our friends (and followers) Leslie, Ken and Abby from Cleveland were coming in to town to play at COSI so we decided that would be a great time to hold our monthly playdate as well. Last time they came to meet us at COSI the weather was really bad and they arrived just as we were leaving. Unfortunately, this time the same thing happened. But, we did meet some new friends and had a lot of fun.

Collin and Brayden checking out the water area. It is so cute-they have rain coats for the kids to wear but somehow Collin manages to get soaked anyway!

The medical area was very popular! They have lab coats, plastic gloves and all kinds of fun medical equipment for the kids to play with. They loved it!

And Wyatt was a great patient!!

FFF-Grandparents

I think I should change this to Favorite Foto Saturday since that is usually when I post!! Anyway- the theme is grandparents. Collin is very lucky in that department. Collin's grandparents love to spoil him rotten but of course that is their job!! Hopefully they will be around for a very long time!!

As you can tell Collin's grandparents love to play and, in case you haven't noticed, when you play at Collin's house you have to wear a hat!!

We have to give special props to Noni because she takes such good care of Collin when we are at work and pretty much any time we ask-and sometimes when we don't!! Collin's Noni was with us in Guatemala when he was very sick. She stayed with Collin and I and spent 10 days in Guatemalan hospitals and helped keep me sane. She was with us when we brought Collin home. She has become our Guatoberfest travel companion. She even drives us crazy at times but I don't know what we would do without her. Collin and his Nana will always have a very special bond.

FFF-Favorite Holiday Foto

I chose this as my favorite holiday photo for several reasons. My whole family is in the photo which rarely happens-even my grandmother. Everyone is smiling or at least looking at the camera! And one smart *ss had to put rabbit ears on Santa's head. I have this picture on my desk at work and everyone that sees it asks me "So, how pissed were you about the fingers"? You know what, I wasn't. I actually thought it was funny and pretty much reflects the smart *ss nature of my family.

Collin's Big Boy Bed

We are going to blame this one on Daddy-but it had to happen eventually. Daddy got out the big boy bed and put it together. Collin seemed very excited but of course any change wreaks havoc for a week or so. The first night he lasted until about 3 am. The next night I think 5am and last night, not at all. We slept on the couch!! Actually, he fell asleep in bed with Wyatt and when I came up to bed, it woke him up and there was no returning from that mistake! I took him downstairs and we fell asleep on the couch. I think he's playing us so he doesn't have to sleep in his bed!! He gets up about twice and sneaks out of his room but we just tell him to go back to bed and he does-so far! We will see what the next few weeks bring. He has been such a good sleeper, hopefully we didn't mess it up!

All smiles until reality sets in at bedtime-lol!

You have to jump on it to make sure it's sturdy!!

Bye Bye crib! ;*(

Night Night! Fingers crossed!

What can I say???

Crazy Christmas Catch Up

Well, at least a start. Once again I have fallen behind and been MIA from my blogging duties. The decorations are put away, the tree is at the curb and best of all the food is GONE!!! So now perhaps I will have a little extra time to catch up with our lives and our blog!!

This was actually a very good Christmas. I was ahead of the game with my shopping and wrapping. Thanks to Trina, I don't really have to worry about cleaning and getting the house presentable. A cleaning lady is worth her weight in GOLD!! I love my cleaning lady...love her, love her , love her...yes, I love her! I haven't cleaned a bath tub, toilet or floor for as long as I can remember and you know what? I don't miss it one bit! Anyway, I was fairly prepared this year and didn't have too many stressful moments. Maybe a few, but nothing holiday ruining! No family drama to speak of. Collin got to spend a lot of time with his cousins, we did lots of fun Christmas stuff and we actually had some relaxing down time almost every weekend. Sometimes I contemplate changing my days off so that Collin is home with one of us 5 days instead of 3 but then I think the together time we spend on our weekends just hanging out is priceless. He gets the best of both worlds-mom and dad!

So on to our holiday!! Of course, I remember I still haven't covered Thanksgiving but it will give me something to blog about in February when we are bored out of our minds with cabin fever.

I started off the Christmas season by making an Advent or Christmas countdown calendar. Collin loved tearing into the little cup every day to see what was inside. Some days he got presents, like a puzzle or a book and other days a little trinket like a Christmas stamper. Everyday there was candy! I think that was why he was so excited-he doesn't usually get candy at home so it was a big treat. I found out the kid loves chocolate and Christmas candy corn. He would always grab the chocolate and stuff it in his mouth like we were going to try to steal it from him!

We had our family picture taken in the beginning of November for our Christmas card and Santa just happened to be at the mall that day so we took Collin over to visit. It's always a crap shoot with any small kid, a camera and a stranger in a funny suit but he did pretty well. It was good practice for the next 50 times he would get his picture with Santa in the coming weeks!

To be continued...

FFF-Christmas Card Out Takes

I can't seem to win with the FFF themes for Christmas. I'm always a week behind! We actually had our picture taken professionally for our Christmas card so we don't have any out takes. Today, we took Collin and he 2 cousins to get their pictures taken and let me tell you there were plenty of out takes in that photo session. I swear I need a photo studio! What does it take for photographers to understand that you can't put 3 kids under 4 together with props and posing and expect them to hold still-at least not these crazy kids! I explained we want a plain white background and not a lot of posing, just let them do what they do-but they pretty much just ignored me completely. We ended up with 3 decent pictures out of all of them-but it was very entertaining!!

Since I don't have any "Official" Christmas Card out takes here are some pics I took last week at COSI with the three cousins hoping they would at least look the same direction! I give up! GOOF BALLS!!

My soapbox about the Advent Conspiracy

I came across this video on another blog. I have to admit I only looked at it for entertainment value. I assumed with a title like that, it had to be some wacko conspiracy theory and who doesn't need a good laugh. Suprisingly enough it really touched me and made me think. It didn't grab my interest because of it's religious value, because that's not really my thing. I am not the type of person that flaunts religion or believes in pushing your beliefs onto others. It touched me because of it's human value and because it shows me how quickly I forget.

When we were in Guatemala it was truly a life changing experience for a myriad of reasons, only one of which was bringing home a baby! We saw poverty that we could never imagine in this country. I remember thinking when I was there that despite all of the stress of the situation, I was more at peace than I had ever felt in my life. Among other things, there was no pressure to have more...there was nothing to have. People just lived their lives. Families worked together, lived together in cramped housing-if they had a roof over their heads at all-and they were happy! We were forced to enjoy eachother without our "creature comforts" and I loved it. I now remember hoping that once we got home, I would never lose that idea that we don't really need much at all. I realized our society makes us think we need more but we really don't. And after watching the video it makes me realize that I have failed miserably.

I had made up my mind that in order to honor my new found attitude and our sons heritage, we would sponsor a Guatemalan family every year so that they could have food and heat and their children could go to school-things we take for granted on a daily basis. For some reason I can never seem to find the money to do that- BUT- I can find the money to buy coffee every day, sometimes several times a day, Collin will see a room full of gifts on Christmas morning, I can go out to eat, I can do whatever I want for the most part. My priorities have gone right back to where they were before I experienced Guatemala and it makes me sad. That is the reason that I am posting the video in a permenant spot on the blog, so that I am constantly reminded, not only during Christmas but all year to give PRESENCE to my friends and family not PRESENTS and to give back to something that I feel very strongly about. I don't write this to push Guatemalan charity or any charity but to encourage anyone reading this to slow down and take a look at your life and see what means the most to you and see where it takes you.
