A First

I am horrible at recording "firsts". I finally bought a life book and trying to fill out all the "firsts" has been a challenge. So I am officially recording a first-the first time that I have seen Collin dance! I just figured he wasn't the dancing type. He loves music and he'll hop around but never anything that resembled dancing. Last night at dinner the restaurant had a band playing, Big Band style. Collin loved it and was dancing all over the place-it was so stinkin cute and funny too!! The old people loved him!

Weekend Update

Not a really exciting weekend. It's funny I complained all summer about having too much to do and now that things are slowing down, I don't know what to do with myself! I think I'm in a end of summer funk!! But, I am SOOO looking forward to October and our Guatoberfest cruise!! My parents are headed to Mexico this week which means I have to change my days off and take one extra day off-oh darn!!

Saturday was my mom's birthday so we took her out to breakfast and then I had to go to work-BOO!! The boys went to the baseball game. I got a text from Wyatt that went like this...your son has lost it! He took his hot dog out of the bun and is handing me popcorn wanting me to throw it at him like a baseball so he can hit it with his hot dog bat!! I cracked up!!

Sunday we had a COFLAC outing at the zoo. Collin always enjoys the zoo! It started at 1pm which is just about nap time so he didn't last very long. It is really hard to schedule outings with little kids that nap-everyone is on a different schedule and we all know that a toddler with no nap is NO FUN!!

Wyatt and Collin got to spend the evening together while Mama went and had a little girl time-nice!! I had dinner at my friends Amy and Em's and every time it's like eating at a fancy restaurant-yum!! It's always nice to have a relaxing evening eating good food, drinking good wine and hanging with friends. If you have followed this blog since the beginning, I met Amy on the airplane on our first trip to Guatemala and we have been great friends since.

Monday we had nothing planned-oh what to do!! Wyatt and Collin did some yard work. Collin loves to help daddy. Daddy loves for Collin to help him...for about 15-20 minutes and then the patience runs out so Collin gets to help Mama-lol.BTW-Collin was dressed but had to put on his Bob the Builder PJS to help daddy!

Then we went shopping for our new undertaking-redoing our family room. We needed to shop for furniture, carpet, paint and a TV. We accomplished buying a TV and probably decided on a sectional. We get made fun of by our friends for being in the dark ages because we still have tube TVs but they still work. I always said we are keeping them until they die. Well, our TV in the family room died, as did all hope for Wyatt when I said lets bring up the one from the basement and use it until it dies. It is still alive but the carpet and couch are on their last leg so Wyatt got his new TV and soon we will have a new family room! Luckily, Collin slept through all but the first stop! The first stop was a nightmare! He had not had his nap or his morning or afternoon poop! He was crazy!! Literally climbing and jumping on furniture and farting like a maniac-P.U.!!!!! I'm not sure I could have taken much more of that but thank goodness he fell asleep and STAYED asleep!

Memorable Moments-Bathroom Baseball

Today we played baseball while Collin sat on the potty(his idea). I sat in the hallway and pitched to him and he hit the ball with his bat. Unfortunately after about 10 minutes of bathroom baseball, no potty. Maybe next time!

Waffle House

It's funny how kids let you know what is going on in their lives without really telling you. I think that daddy has been taking Collin to Waffle House (Daddy's favorite-WTH???)much more than I had suspected! While in NC last week, we were driving along and out of nowhere Collin announces "Waffle House" plain as day. And what do you know...there was a Waffle House. He continued to point them out the rest of the trip. It seems there is an Awful Waffle on every corner in the south.I don't recall him ever stating the name of a restaurant before. He may say "num num" and he loves Chik-fil-A but he calls it "Moo Chicky". I think that daddy and Collin hit the Waffle House and flirt with girls while mom is at work! No wonder they always say "hi" when we walk in !!

North Carolina

Last weekend Collin and I went with my parents to return the girls to my brother in North Carolina. We stayed a few days and had a nice visit. The kids had a great time. It was a pretty relaxing trip-as relaxing as life can be with 3 screaming crazies running around! We hung out at the pool, the kids played on their new pool in the backyard, we cooked out and hit the drive in movie, something I haven't done for years. It was nice to have some time to have Collin all to myself. He was very clingy and seemed pretty "out of his element" but he had a great time. I think he was just afraid I was going to leave him there so I could never leave his sight!

Crashed at the drive in-my mom is OUT!!

Collin sporting one of his cousins robes. We were calling him Hugh Hefner!

A cute pic of my niece I couldn't resist posting. Those eyes are just so stinkin cute! Even with her new haircut, compliments of her big sister, she's still adorable!

Buckethead Collin- I remember being called that a time or two. Unfortunately I wasn't 2 1/2!!!

Nothing better that a bunch of little naked kids running around having fun without a care in the world! Absolutely no inhibition-those were the days. Oh-and of course the blackmail material for future use!!

Wordless Wednesday-Anybody see the news story about the little kid driving the family van?

Weekend Review

Another fun filled weekend in the Wilson house. Saturday we hosted a play date for several of our COFLAC friends. We had a really nice time and I think everyone else did too. The kids seemed to have a really good time playing. I was a little concerned that Collin would run around yelling "MINE! MINE! MINE" but he was actually a pretty good host. The kids played magnet fishing, drew with sidewalk chalk, played basketball, played cars, played in the sandbox pretty much played everything! It was really nice to have a smaller group so that we are forced to get to know each other. When we have the large gatherings it's too easy to just play with your own kid and not really get a chance to talk to any of the other parents. Even Wyatt enjoyed it! He's never really happy about me dragging him to these gatherings but we have to remember it's about Collin, not about us.

Saturday night Collin spent the night with Nana, Pops, Brylie and Kahlen while Wyatt had a guys night out and I had a girls night out. Needless to say we were pretty much useless for most of the day on Sunday but we did manage to get it together enough to meet my long time friend Glenna and her family at the Clippers game. They live in California now and are in town for a couple of weeks. It was also my mom and dads wedding anniversary-39 years!!- so we took the girls off their hands for the evening and headed to the ballpark. Hello-CRAZY! How people go anywhere with 3 kids under 4 is beyond me! I'm sure the 62 juice boxes, popcorn, cotton candy and peanuts probably didn't help! Luckily, we sat in the bleachers so we had them coralled for the most part. Collin did get to see the Clippers mascots Lou Seal and Crash up close and personal which made him very happy. Unfortunately they scared the crap out of one of Glenna's kids! Poor guy!

Monday we decided to go to the Ohio State Fair and indulge in some more fabulous cuisine! Lemon shakes, corndogs, ribs, corn on the cob, roasted nuts, frozen chocolate covered banana, ice cream, sno cone, about 50 gallons of iced tea and last but not least...Collin's first taste of Pop Rocks!! We went to the petting zoo. I bought a bowl of carrots and Collin walked up to the first coralle and dumped the entire thing on top the goat's. We were picking carrots off the goats and putting them back in the bowl so he would have something to feed the other animals. We also went to the fishing area-that was always my favorite part of the fair as a kid. It seemed like we always caught a fish but not this time. Wyatt almost got snagged a couple of times but we managed to avoid tragedy!

Today was the businessmans special at the Clippers-which means the game was at noon- so I took the first couple hours off work and Collin and I went to the baseball game...again! Now, you might be thinking, wow,she really loves baseball. Not really. I really like the new park and I don't mind baseball but Collin LOVES it so it is something he really enjoys doing. Most of the time I can't even tell you who won becasue I am having so much fun watching him have fun! He has started singing the song "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" and he is learning all the lines that the fans yell. He cheers and yells "swing"! Today we left before the game ended because I thought for sure it was going to start pouring. He had to stop at every opening to keep watching the game and he had to say "hi" to everyone. We were standing at one of the windows when Crash, the mascot, came up behind us and gave Collin a big hug. You would have thought the kid saw Santa Clause!! It was fun having a little mom/son time!

My soapbox about the Advent Conspiracy

I came across this video on another blog. I have to admit I only looked at it for entertainment value. I assumed with a title like that, it had to be some wacko conspiracy theory and who doesn't need a good laugh. Suprisingly enough it really touched me and made me think. It didn't grab my interest because of it's religious value, because that's not really my thing. I am not the type of person that flaunts religion or believes in pushing your beliefs onto others. It touched me because of it's human value and because it shows me how quickly I forget.

When we were in Guatemala it was truly a life changing experience for a myriad of reasons, only one of which was bringing home a baby! We saw poverty that we could never imagine in this country. I remember thinking when I was there that despite all of the stress of the situation, I was more at peace than I had ever felt in my life. Among other things, there was no pressure to have more...there was nothing to have. People just lived their lives. Families worked together, lived together in cramped housing-if they had a roof over their heads at all-and they were happy! We were forced to enjoy eachother without our "creature comforts" and I loved it. I now remember hoping that once we got home, I would never lose that idea that we don't really need much at all. I realized our society makes us think we need more but we really don't. And after watching the video it makes me realize that I have failed miserably.

I had made up my mind that in order to honor my new found attitude and our sons heritage, we would sponsor a Guatemalan family every year so that they could have food and heat and their children could go to school-things we take for granted on a daily basis. For some reason I can never seem to find the money to do that- BUT- I can find the money to buy coffee every day, sometimes several times a day, Collin will see a room full of gifts on Christmas morning, I can go out to eat, I can do whatever I want for the most part. My priorities have gone right back to where they were before I experienced Guatemala and it makes me sad. That is the reason that I am posting the video in a permenant spot on the blog, so that I am constantly reminded, not only during Christmas but all year to give PRESENCE to my friends and family not PRESENTS and to give back to something that I feel very strongly about. I don't write this to push Guatemalan charity or any charity but to encourage anyone reading this to slow down and take a look at your life and see what means the most to you and see where it takes you.
