Bon Voyage

Well, the time is here. We drop Collin off at Nana and Pops tonight. We leave bright and early-gone for a week! This will be our first vacation without Collin. I think I am feeling a little anxiety!! I have already warned Wyatt to be prepared. I know dropping him off will be really hard. I am hoping once we get to Miami and start our "adult activities" that the shock will wear off a bit and I will be able to have fun. I promised that I would not be one of those mom's that can't ever leave her kids and can't stop talking about them and obsessing over them all the time-but it's HARD!!! It will be interesting, our lives have changed so much since Collin has been home. I really hate being away from him even overnight. Trying to look at the positive side of things, I have to admit I am looking forward to neither of us having to get up in the morning for a week and having a little "us" time...BUT-Collin is such a big part of "us" now we will have to get used to just two of us again. I hope we remember how to be the fun party Wilson's!! Obviously, we will be MIA for a week. See you in March!!

More FFF-Love

FFF: Theme LOVE

I am making a small adjustment to my theme. I will call it...LOVE STORY. Since this is the Story of Collin, here is the story of the love that brought Collin into our lives.

In the beginning...love started with two people.

assisted by the love and support of their very special family and friends(not all are pictured here-JANA!!)

The two people knew they wanted to share their love with a child and on March 9, 2008 they saw that child for the first time-in a picture-and it was love at first sight. They knew immediately that was their son they just had to go get him and bring him home.

On May 30, 2008 the couple held their son in their arms for the first time and their lives were forever changed. A new love was born. They spent an amazing week in Antigua, Guatemala bonding as a family and discovering a new love. Not only with a child but between themselves.

Unfortunately, they would have to wait a short while longer to bring their son home. But, their love continued to grow across the miles. They also learned to lean on eachother in ways they never had to before, which made their love for one another grow even more and brought them closer as a couple.

On September 13, 2007 their dream became a reality and thier son was home and in their arms forever.

Today, Wyatt, Heather and Collin are loving life and loving eachother!

COFLAC Valentines Party

Yesterday was our monthly COFLAC event. Three families got together and had a Valentines Party at the Hilliard Senior Center. They had homemade playdough, cookie decorating, valentine bag decorating and lots of games and food. With all of that, I think the kids were most entertained by a small riser stage. They climbed up on one side, ran across and jumped off of the other side. Collin had fun trying out some of the wrestling moves he has picked up from his cousins. I think he met his match in Brandon, who was very willing to participate Collin's WWE Smackdown! I hope Collin is not going to be a bully. I kind of got the feeling one of the mom's didn't appreciate Collin's antics, but, what can you do? They are boys and they are going to play hard.

Collin was popular with a couple of the ladies as well. He gave and received his very first Valentines. He was just happy to see a bunch of suckers! The Valentines he passed out were really cute. They were little cards with animals that he colored with a sucker stuck on them. He colored each and every one of them all by himself. They had a speaker come in to talk about a Guatemalan charity and all of the kids were actually very quiet-EXCEPT- you guessed it...Mr. Wilson Jr. There were a couple of older kids that would try to help him to be quiet and say "SSSHHH" but that just made him laugh and say "SSSHH" to them. Hey, he's only 2 what do you expect?

At the end of the party they had a heart pinata. They let the little kids go first and Collin jumped right up. He grabbed the bat backwards and ran up to the pinata and then hit it with his fist! Everybody started laughing so he played it up even more-what a ham. He went back to his spot to sit down and looked so proud of himself. The room got quiet when the next kid stepped up and you hear Collin yell "Ready...Set...GO"! He was quite the party animal...hhmmm...kind of reminds me of someone???

Unfortunately, we had to make an emergency exit from the party do to a big nasty bootie to the back of the neck blow out! Here's daddy figuring out what that smell is!?!?!

OOPS! I missed FFF

Well, I missed FFF-mainly because it was taking too long for me to find a picture that went with the topic MELT-so I gave up. But, I am back today-Sunday- and I have a video from Friday that is pretty funny. We took Collin to the Dublin Rec play gym and Wyatt was trying to get him to kick the ball. He is very meticulous about lining them up just right and the...well, you'll see.

Fun Times!

I went out for my friend's 40th birthday last night so I was not exactly in prime condition this morning. Assuming-1st mistake- that since I try to keep Collin somewhat tame and out of the way after Wyatt has had a late night that he would reciprocate. Not really the case. Collin was up bright and early and DH got him out of bed and brought him in with us, which only means one thing, lots of kicking and pushing and whining and don't forget the Baby Einstein. Great with the throbbing head. Finally, dad was nice enough to take him downstairs to feed him breakfast to fuel him up for the reign of terror which was about to commence. Game On!! Of course, as soon as he was released from the highchair he hightailed it right upstairs in the bed with his hungover mama wanting to watch Baby Einstein, hogging the bed, whacking me on the head and poking me in the eye. Then, just when I thought I couldn't take it anymore he would get up and go downstairs to play. AAHH! Back to sleep-for 5 minutes-could have been longer but it sure seemed like 5! "MMMAAAAA"-knock knock on my head. Then to top it off as I am in and out of consciousness Wyatt decides to take Peyton and his friend home to Grove City AND LEAVES COLLIN HERE!! Essentially Collin was left home alone for God knows how long because the last thing I remember before having a chapstick shoved up my nose is "I have to take Peyton home". I may or may not have acknowledged the fact that the little one was staying behind but the fact still remains...not a smart move!

As I stated before, I was jolted from my probably still drunken slumber with the contents of my makeup bag strewn about and a 2 year old trying to put chapstick up my nose. Don't worry, I have already resigned to the fact that I will not be winning the "Mother of the Year Award" this year. I looked around and saw the evidence that the small mischievous one had been left unattended for quite some time. Makeup, jewelry, contents of drawers and laundry baskets tossed around willy nilly!! I was afraid to see what he had done downstairs! It's kind of hard to be upset with the kid when...#1-I didn't wake up because I was hungover and #2 when he sees my eyes open he yells "YAY YAY YAY, mama up" and gets off the bed to bring me my robe!!!

So I cleaned up the mess upstairs and headed downstairs. My first observation is a white substance all over the floor, later identified as salt,as in table. All I can say is thank goodness salt and pepper shakers are small or the mess would have been much bigger. Then I looked downstairs and saw the coffee table covered in salt and pepper as well as this piece of work...

Yes, they are upside down, it's not the picture-very impressive!

A little later after Wyatt arrived back home he yells to me that he found one of our tickets to the UFC Fight in March on the floor downstairs-there are 2 tickets...FOR OUR SEATS IN A LUXURY BOX!!!-I wonder where the other one is??? It was quickly determined that it was both MIA and MINE. Is it really my fault??? Who leaves a kid home with a hungover drunk lady?!?!? well, lots of people, but thats another story.

All day we, or should I say I, was looking everywhere for this ticket. It could be anywhere-probably in the land of lost TV remotes and keys never to be seen again. Then, late tonight as we were sitting watching the very educational and entertaining "Rock of Love Bus" it dawned on me that the VCR was askew...hhmmm??? The VCR is conveniently located in very near proximity to the location that the other ticket was found. I tried to open the door to take a peek inside but it wouldn't open, so I pushed a little harder. Why are there DVD's in the VCR??? I take out the DVDs and I'm pretty confident that I have spotted the missing booty!@!! So, I grab a flashlight and a pair of tongs and begin a very tricky VCR surgical procedure. Don't try this at home folks-leave it to the professionals. Tongs in, ticket out-YES-Score one for me!!! I'm back in the luxury box people!

I pray that nothing else comes up missing because I am all out of creative ideas on where the little boy burglar might strike next. The moral to this story you ask?? If you know you are going to tie one on, even if your husband is home, take the kid to Nana and Pop and let them be responsible!!

Our Super Bowl Party

We had a very exciting Super Bowl Party...just the 3 of us! Okay, it wasn't that exciting, we just hung out at home which is fine with me. Collin was happy because he got to eat chips-that's all he really cares about. I'm pretty sure he could have cared less about football but I could be wrong!

Top 10 Tuesday

Okay-for Top 10 Tuesday I am going to do the random 25 things about Collin. Since I have been tagged about 20 times on Facebook I thought I would do it on the blog. I have way too many issues with putting that much of myself out for public consumption. For some reason I feel like the blog is not as "public"-I'm not sure why?!?! And, I'm writing about my favorite subject-Mr. Wilson Jr.

So, here we go...SORRY ABOUT THE NARRATIVE FORM>>>I CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO KEEP THE SPACES IN...

1. Collin was born in Amatitlan, Guatemala.

2. His birth mother was 19 years old and very poor. She wanted him to have a better life than she could provide for him and loved him enough to let him go.

3. Collin joined our family through the gift of adoption.

4. Collin loves almost every kind of food. His favorites are fish, rice and raw red peppers. Despite his love of fruits and veggies, his idea of the perfect meal would probably consist of tortilla chips, crayons and mini marshmallows if he was allowed.

5. Collin likes to wear multiple layers of clothes. He will put 3 shirts, jeans and shoes on over his PJ's. I'm not sure if this is from being bundled up in 800 layers of clothes as a baby (the way all Guatemalan babies are) or if it is because he is exercising his independence by putting clothes on by himself.

6. The top layer of shirts almost always consists of his OSU jersey or a bright yellow Cookie Monster shirt. If neither of those are available anything will do as long as it is a pull over. Usually that shirt is only worn around his neck. If you try to take that shirt off you are in BIG trouble.

7. Collin almost always wears a hat whenever he leaves the house. Typically it is his cowboy hat or his 'Lil Buckeye hat. When we are at home, everyone has to wear a hat and it must be the hat that Collin picks out. DO NOT TAKE THE HAT OFF!!

8. Collin does not like to wear pants.

9. I have seen Collin eat an entire strip steak, a plate of spagetti, cucumber and tomato salad and french fries all in one sitting. I have NO IDEA where it all went!

10. Collin likes to hide in closets, behind stuffed animals, in his tent and especially in clothes racks when at the store causing fear and often panic in his poor mother!

11. Collin currently loves the Backyardigans, Wonder Pets and Baby Einstein Videos. He calls them "eye-n-tine baby".

12. Collin loves to take his vitamins every day and will remind you if you forget by yelling "VITY, VITY" and pointing to the cabinet.

13. Collin enjoys drinking water from the dog's bowl-Poor Bosley!

14. After a picture is taken of Collin you have to show him the picture-then he will go back and do it again, and again, and again.....

15. Collin likes to fall down on purpose and yell-"help, help"!

16. Collin gets frustrated very easily when he can't do something but he usually will keep trying.

17. Collin only likes to wear his Pollywogs (Crocs that look like animals) because he can put them on himself. His Pollywogs make his feet stink really bad!

18. Collin lived with a fantastic foster family in Guatemala for 7 months. They loved him very much and took very good care of him. I know they miss him very much.

19. Collin loves to sit at his art desk and write on the white board with markers.

20. Collin does not like snow and will not step on it if at all possible.

21. Collin does not like to get his shoes dirty. If he does he says "Oh no, shoes"!

22.Collin likes to sit on top of the coffee table and watch tv.

23. Collin loves puzzles and has mastered almost all of them.

24.Collin is an outie.

25.Collin will probably never know the extent of the joy and fulfillment he has brought to our lives(maybe someday when he has kids).

My soapbox about the Advent Conspiracy

I came across this video on another blog. I have to admit I only looked at it for entertainment value. I assumed with a title like that, it had to be some wacko conspiracy theory and who doesn't need a good laugh. Suprisingly enough it really touched me and made me think. It didn't grab my interest because of it's religious value, because that's not really my thing. I am not the type of person that flaunts religion or believes in pushing your beliefs onto others. It touched me because of it's human value and because it shows me how quickly I forget.

When we were in Guatemala it was truly a life changing experience for a myriad of reasons, only one of which was bringing home a baby! We saw poverty that we could never imagine in this country. I remember thinking when I was there that despite all of the stress of the situation, I was more at peace than I had ever felt in my life. Among other things, there was no pressure to have more...there was nothing to have. People just lived their lives. Families worked together, lived together in cramped housing-if they had a roof over their heads at all-and they were happy! We were forced to enjoy eachother without our "creature comforts" and I loved it. I now remember hoping that once we got home, I would never lose that idea that we don't really need much at all. I realized our society makes us think we need more but we really don't. And after watching the video it makes me realize that I have failed miserably.

I had made up my mind that in order to honor my new found attitude and our sons heritage, we would sponsor a Guatemalan family every year so that they could have food and heat and their children could go to school-things we take for granted on a daily basis. For some reason I can never seem to find the money to do that- BUT- I can find the money to buy coffee every day, sometimes several times a day, Collin will see a room full of gifts on Christmas morning, I can go out to eat, I can do whatever I want for the most part. My priorities have gone right back to where they were before I experienced Guatemala and it makes me sad. That is the reason that I am posting the video in a permenant spot on the blog, so that I am constantly reminded, not only during Christmas but all year to give PRESENCE to my friends and family not PRESENTS and to give back to something that I feel very strongly about. I don't write this to push Guatemalan charity or any charity but to encourage anyone reading this to slow down and take a look at your life and see what means the most to you and see where it takes you.
